“Printing Revolution” takes a look at the printing press (and development of related technologies); graphic prints, books, documents; and the idea of printing about rebellion & revolution as being “revolutionary”. The program also focuses on the legal battles fought over the concept of Freedom of the Press and Free Speech between England and the American Colonies, culminating in the printing of the Declaration of Independence.

About the Presenter:

Andy Volpe is an Artist, printer and living history presenter in Worcester MA.  Since 2010 he has collaborated with Gary Gregory who formed the Printing Office of Edes & Gill which replicates important American Revolutionary documents and images, notably the Declaration of Independence, using the same techniques and replica equipment.  Andy focuses his work on replicating Paul Revere and other notable 18th century prints.   He is also involved with the Museum of Printing in Haverhill MA, where he gives tours, presentations and printing demos, and focuses on intaglio, graphics and illustration printing spanning 1450-1800.  He holds a degree in Fine Arts from Westfield State University where he fell in love with the printers in the Renaissance and Early Modern periods.  When not printing, he presents at the Worcester Art Museum (with the Higgins Armory Collection) on various Arms & Armor periods with a few living history groups.
