Session One - An Introduction to Collections Care

Have you ever wondered about that metallic sheen on your old photos? Or why some papers crumble at the slightest touch while your ancestor's property deed is in comparatively good shape? What about the box of Super8 films in the attic?

This first session will introduce the concepts of cultural heritage preservation and lay the foundation for saving  your family heirlooms. We will discuss what your family collections are made of and how these materials break down over time. You will come away with an understanding of how to protect your family collections and save them for future generations.

In the next session on November 30th, 2021, we will review practical suggestions for storing and handling your family collections with care. You may attend either or both sessions.
