Please join the Powow River Poets on May 11, 2024 at 2:30 p.m., in person at the Newburyport Public Library, for our monthly poetry reading.

The invited readers this month are Powow River poet Dan Brown, and special guest Meg Kearney.

Dan Brown, a New York native, is a distinguished poet and musicologist with degrees from Cornell University and Dartmouth College. His book Taking the Occasion, won the New Criterion Poetry Prize and he has won a Pushcart Prize. His latest collection is What More, and he has published a critical book, Subjects in Poetry. His Why Bach? and Bach, Beethoven, Bartok are audio-visual ebooks available from Amazon.com.  His work has appeared in Poetry, Parnassus Review and other journals and in numerous anthologies.

Meg Kearney, a resident of New Hampshire, has many accolades to her name.  Her All Morning the Crows won the Washington Prize for poetry and a Silver Medal from Forward Review, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.  Her Home By Now won the PEN New England L.L. Winship Award.  She is also the author of a trilogy of verse novels for teens and her picture book Trouper has won awards from among others, an Association of School Librarians.  Her poems can be found in numerous journals and anthologies.  She is founding director of the Solstice MFA in Creative Writing Program at Lasell University in Massachusetts.
