The Powows are thrilled to be collaborating with the Newburyport Library and the Worcester Poet Laureate Program, Miercoletras to present an evening of Spanish poetry and translation. Featured poets are Maria Ines Iacometti, an Argentinian Spanish-speaking poet, singer, and songwriter serving on the faculty and in administration of Universidad National de Littoral in Santa Fe, Argentina and Belén Atienza, a Spanish language poet, translator, and faculty member at Clark University in Worcester, MA. Rhina P. Espaillat will host and translate. 

Maria Ines Iacometti works administratively at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral and is a poet, writer, and singer by vocation. She is the co-founder and General Coordinator of the International Literary Collective "Latin American Poetic Art". She has won national and international awards in narrative, poetry and aphorisms. She has dabbled in children's literature with stories, poems, couplets and tongue twisters. She has published numerous collections including "Poemas al mar" with Spanish poet José Manuel Sáiz (Amazon) and "From My Soul to Paper" (available in e-book and paperback on Amazon). She is currently editing "Con-Vocación de Pájaros", a poetry book with the Uruguayan poet Heber E. Souza. She collaborates regularly with radio, magazines, channels, classes and motivational talks, both face-to-face and virtually.

Belén Atienza is a writer whose family originated in southern Andaluzian Spain and resettled in Catalania. She was one of twelve writers invited to study under Garcia Marquez and Toni Morrison at Princeton University from 1993-1998. She teaches Spanish Literature on the faculty of Clark University, Worcester, MA. She earned her BA in Literature at the Universad Aut noma de Barcelona and her doctorate in Romance Languages from Princeton University. Her poetry appears in Trasdemar, Letralia, Rattle, and Think, where her Spanish poetry is translated into English by her dear friend, Rhina P. Espaillat, who has participated in literary festivals hosted by Amada Libertad y la Otra Fil.

The featured readings will be followed by an open mic.
