Join us for an afternoon of poetry with the Powow River Poets! Readings are free, accessible, and open to the public. The poets reading this month are Lewis Turco and Wendy Cannella. This reading will be held in the Library Program Room, and masks are optional. Come early to sign up for open mic!

Lewis Turco is a highly esteemed, prolific, award-winning writer of poetry, fiction, drama, and essays published in major literary magazines, many major quarterlies, and in over a hundred anthologies and books. In 1968, Lewis Turco first published The Book of Forms: A Handbook of Poetics by E. P. Dutton of New York City.  This latter book soon became the standard in its field and continued in print for seventeen years, running through several printings and selling over 25,000 copies.

Wendy Cannella’s poetry has appeared in Balancing Act 2: An Anthology of Poems by Fifty Maine Women (Littoral Books, 2018), Crab Creek Review (Poetry Prize semi-finalist), Mid-American Review, Mom Egg Review, Painted Bride Quarterly, RHINO, Salamander, Solstice, and others. Her essay “Angels and Terrorists” is featured in The Room and the World: Essays on the Poet Stephen Dunn (Syracuse University Press, 2013). Co-editor of the anthology Lunation (Senile Monk Press, 2019), Cannella served as co-chair for the Portsmouth Poet Laureate Project board of directors, and was a Maine Literary Award finalist. She lives in York Harbor, Maine.

The Powow River Poets, based in Newburyport, Massachusetts, are active promoters of poetry in New England.
