Join miniaturist David Vine for a presentation on his hand-crafted scale models of historic Newburyport buildings and popular landmarks, such as the Old South Church, Angie’s Diner, Emma Andrews Library, the Screening Room, the Thirsty Whale, Oldies and others. Enjoy stories on how David became inspired to build scale models and all of the trials, tribulations and fun that went into constructing them. An exhibit of his miniatures will be on display and there will be ample time for Q&A at the end.

Model-builder David Vine, a long-time South End resident, owned a waterfront engineering company in Newburyport for many years, where he designed and provided construction oversight for all types of marine structures. He holds degrees in Civil Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and in Geotechnical and Ocean Engineering from UMASS/Amherst. David has been an avid model railroad builder since he was 10-years-old and, since his retirement, enjoys building dollhouses and miniature HO/O scale replicas of local houses and landmarks. The dollhouse in the photograph is of his house at 47 Marlboro Street. It was built to scale and the interior rooms are quite detailed and accurate. Of all of his models, his favorites are the Old South Church and Angie’s Diner. He is currently building a shadow box model of the Newburyport Public Library (Tracy Mansion) using the Library’s Feingold architectural plans from 2000.
