Join the monthly Art History Group!

No prior knowledge of art history or the artist of the month is necessary. This group meets in-person on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 3 PM.

For the month of March, we will review the defining characteristics of Cubism with a focus on the Irish painter, Mainie Jellett (1897–1944). Jellett studied at Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and the Westminster Art School in London, before obtaining apprenticeships in Paris along with fellow Irish artist, Evie Hone. When the two friends returned to Ireland, they experienced considerable push-back against their modernist compositions, as this was a time when Ireland was looking to rekindle its traditions and old heritage. Today, Jellett is widely known as the woman who brought modern art to Ireland.
