Join the monthly Art History Group!

We will review the life and work of one artist each month, and discuss the movements that they contributed to. No prior knowledge of art history or the artist of the month is necessary. This group meets in-person on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 3 PM.

Known in the art world as the “Prince of Dreams,” Odilon Redon (1880-1916) is considered one of the leading figures of the French Symbolist movement. Symbolism was in reaction to and against Realism that had taken Europe by storm. Inspired by the works of Francisco José de Goya, Eugène Delacroix, and the poet Charles Baudelaire, Redon immersed his audience in mystical and dreamlike imagery that sought to elevate the spirit. Redon mastered a variety of mediums to execute his extraordinary visions, including charcoal, lithography, etching, pastel, and oil.

We will begin with an introduction to Symbolism, before exploring Redon’s rich palette and unbound imagination.
